“Almost everything will work again if you unplug it for a few minutes… including you.” — Anne Lamott
Burnout isn’t just “being tired.” It’s a state of emotional, mental, and physical exhaustion that sneaks up on you, especially if you’re a high achiever who’s used to pushing through.
According to the World Health Organization, burnout is now recognized as an occupational phenomenon, meaning it’s directly tied to chronic workplace stress that hasn’t been successfully managed.
But here’s the truth: burnout can be prevented — and even reversed — if you learn how to manage your energy, not just your time.

Signs You Might Be Burning Out
Feeling emotionally drained and detached from your work or life roles
Reduced sense of accomplishment, even after completing tasks
Trouble focusing, forgetfulness, or constant irritability
Physical symptoms like headaches, insomnia, or frequent illness
The Energy Quadrant Approach
Energy is more than just physical stamina. It has four dimensions:
Physical Energy – Sleep, nutrition, hydration, and movement
Emotional Energy – Positive emotions and healthy relationships
Mental Energy – Focus, clarity, and the ability to problem-solve
Spiritual Energy – A sense of meaning and purpose in what you do
Practical Burnout-Busting Activities
90-Minute Focus Blocks – Work in concentrated bursts, then take short breaks to reset.
Energy Audit – Write down activities that energize you vs. those that drain you. Aim to increase energizing activities daily.
Micro-Moments of Joy – Play your favorite song, enjoy a mindful coffee, or watch the sunrise. These moments replenish emotional energy.

Burnout doesn’t have to be your story.
